Attorney Uche’s client, an elderly woman had been admitted to a nursing home in order to recover from a stroke. A few days after her dismission, the family found her in bed with bruises from a fall.
During trial, the nursing home had argued that it was not at fault for the fall. The nursing home argued that the elderly client caused her own fall and that even if she did not cause her own fall, the injuries she sustained were not serious
At trial attorney Uche empathized to the Cook County jury that elderly patients should always be supervised because of their health risk. But, Attorney Uche emphasized to the jury that an emotional damage is just as serious as the most serious physical injury.
After just under 40 minutes of deliberation, the jury returned a verdict in favor of Attorney Uche’s client and awarded her a record $625,000 for emotional distress.
